Online Teaching Certification: Fall 2026 Cohort

Required to teach Online, Live Online, Blended, and Live Flex modalities per C.O.P. 03-0801.

Course Description

Whether you are new to online teaching or a seasoned pro looking to stay current with best practices, we have designed this course to help you refine your skills, explore FSW-supported tools, and practice strategies that will strengthen your impact in the online classroom.

The FSW Online Teaching Certification prepares faculty to deliver high-quality, humanized online instruction through seven self-paced modules covering course setup, communication strategies, activity design, accessibility compliance, and synchronous session management.

Key Details

• Format: Fully online and asynchronous. 
• Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per module (7 modules total = 14-28 hours)
• Enrollment: This course will open on October 19, 2026, and close on March 12, 2027. It will include structured pacing with due dates to ensure completion in time for online teaching in Spring 2027.

FAQs

Am I required to take this course?

If you are scheduled to teach a course other than traditional face-to-face, on-campus classes, yes, you are required to have the Online Teaching Certification per C.O.P. 03-0801. This includes asynchronous Online, synchronous Live Online, Blended, and/or Live Flex. 

All FSW and staff are welcome to complete the course.

How do I know if I am certified or not?

If you think you have already completed the required certifications to teach in your desired modality, you may search the FSW Online Certifications List. 

What happens after I enroll?

After you enroll, the Online Teaching Certification course will appear on your Canvas Dashboard. Look for the "Online Teaching Certification" course card and click it to enter the course. Read the homepage and click the "Start Here" button.
