Nurse Remedial / Refresher CE Course

Course Overview

Florida SouthWestern State College’s Nurse Remedial / Refresher Continuing Education Course is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing (FBON) and provides a comprehensive 16-week review of essential nursing content and skills. The course is designed for:

·        Individuals seeking Florida RN licensure after three unsuccessful NCLEX attempts

·        Lapsed license holders returning to nursing practice

·        Nurses seeking to refresh clinical skills and knowledge

Course Components

·        80 Didactic Hours: Delivered online via Virtual ATI®, including fundamentals and safety, medical-surgical, geriatric, maternal-child, mental health nursing, and pharmacology.

·        96 Clinical Hours: Hands-on training in FSW’s Nursing Simulation Laboratories, plus clinical rotations at local healthcare facilities.

📅 Offered Fall, Spring, and Summer—pending minimum enrollment.


What You’ll Need

·        Regular access to a computer with a webcam and a microphone

·        Completion of Virtual ATI® is required to receive course completion certification

·        Students who do not complete the course by the end date must re-enroll and pay tuition again to earn a certificate of completion and a letter of completion sent to the Florida Board of Nursing


Virtual ATI® & NCLEX Preparation

Virtual ATI® is a 12-week, self-paced NCLEX-RN didactic preparation program guided by a live ATI Nurse Educator. It includes:

·        Personalized coaching

·        BoardVitals™ quiz bank (3,700+ questions)

·        Case studies and adaptive assessments aligned with the NCLEX blueprint

·        Cost of Virtual

Virtual ATI covers all the didactic (lecture) portion of the Nurse Remedial / Refresher CE Course. FSW faculty will not have access to Virtual ATI® accounts. Direct all ATI-related questions to your ATI Nurse Educator assigned by ATI.


On-Campus Orientation

Orientation includes course expectations, introduction to Virtual ATI®, and clinical prep.


Tentative On-Campus Lab & Simulation Dates (Fall 2025)

🩺 Fridays: August 29, September 5 (tentative), September 19 (tentative)
🩺 Thursdays: October 2, October 9, October 16
🕣 All sessions: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, an updated, exact schedule will be given to students on the Sep 28 orientation class.

💡 Clinical rotations are expected to be at Cape Coral Hospital (pending confirmation).


Location of Training

·        Didactic: Online

·        Skills Labs & Simulation: FSW Lee Campus Bldg A/AA (part of 96 clinical hours)

·        Clinical Rotations: Lee Health – Cape Coral Hospital (part of required 96 clinical hours)


Tuition & Fees

·        Tuition: $1,930 (includes Virtual ATI® and lab supplies)

·        Additional Costs:

o   Uniform (varies)

o   CastleBranch compliance tracker: ~approximately $154.25

Tuition must be paid in full by the registration deadline.


Application Process

Phase I: Initial Application Deadline Aug. 1, 2025

·        Submit application and pay tuition in full

·        If you’ve failed the NCLEX three times, request a remediation letter from the Florida Board of Nursing:

Phase II: Compliance & Background

·        Complete Level II background check and drug screening via CastleBranch.com

·        Meet clinical site health and vaccination requirements

·        Note: Inability to meet clinical requirements may prevent course completion

Phase III: Required Documents

Submit the following before final acceptance:

·        Current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers card

·        Proof of health insurance

·        Physical exam form signed by a licensed provider

·        TB screening

·        MMR, Varicella, Tetanus/Tdap immunizations (or titers/waivers)

·        Hepatitis B series (or opt-out waiver)

·        Signed program forms

✔️ Final acceptance will be sent to selected applicants


Academic Requirements

·        Score ≥90% on medication math exam before starting clinicals

·        Complete 96 clinical hours with satisfactory performance

·        Attendance is mandatory for all clinical sessions

·        Earn a green light for Virtual ATI didactic work

·        This is a Pass/Fail course

FSW cannot confirm whether this course meets the licensure requirements in states outside Florida. Please consult your state’s Board of Nursing before enrolling.
