Full course description
Intro to Bioinformatics & DNA Technology
This is a FULL DAY camp running from 9:00am - 4:00pm
Location: Florida SouthWestern Lee Campus
Duration: Week 1, July 07-11, 2025
Unlock the secrets hidden in your DNA! This immersive week-long camp is designed for teens curious about genetics, molecular biology, and computer-based science. Through hands-on experiments, computer simulations, and interactive challenges, students will explore how scientists analyze genetic information and use cutting-edge technologies to study life. Campers will extract DNA, simulate PCR and gel electrophoresis, decode sequences using online databases like NCBI BLAST, and even learn about CRISPR and genetic engineering. No prior experience is necessary—just a love of science and a curiosity for how living things work. By the end of the week, students will have gained foundational skills in bioinformatics, discovered real-world applications in medicine and research, and presented their own mini-projects at a showcase event. Whether you dream of becoming a geneticist, computer scientist, or just want to experience the thrill of science, this camp will inspire and empower you.
Please note: Lunch is not included. You’re welcome to bring your own lunch or purchase a meal from the FSW Cafeteria, open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
